Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Sophie Anderton tackle their addiction to smoking.
We compare aversion therapy, popularised by the Channel 4 program 'Cold Turkey' to Bioresonace therapy offered at smokingrelief.co.uk.
For the New Year, Channel 4 ran a program based on aversion therapy. Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Sophie Anderton explored their self-destructive relationship with cigarettes and had to go to extreme lengths to kick the habit. They agreed to undergo a week of aversion therapy to combat their smoking habits
Aversion therapy pairs the pleasurable stimulus of smoking a cigarette with some unpleasant stimulus. The objective is to extinguish the urge to smoke.
During the week Dr Hayden McRobbiel overdosed them on nicotine and presented them with the hard facts, no holds barred. The girls chain smoked until they were sick, while confronting the grim truths of how smoking lowers fertility, clogs arteries and causes blindness. It should change they way they think about cigarettes.
According to a
Cochrane Library report, "Aversion therapy for smoking has not been shown conclusively to be effective, but it may be worth further research." further stating "
The existing studies provide insufficient evidence to determine the efficacy of rapid smoking"
As well as putting the subjects through extreme conditions and hours of therapy time, aversion therapy is very demanding for those undergoing it in terms of time commitment and stress. Whilst Sophie Anderton endured the extreme nature of the therapy, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson found it too distressing to commit fully.
In contrast, Bioresonance therapy takes up to an hour for the appointment, the patient is not exposed to any stress and there is no administration of further Nicotine. The results are relatively immediate and the success rate is 70% after the first session and 90% for those requiring a second session.
A few days following the therapy, Dr McRobbiel paid a surprise visit to both celebrities and tested their Carbon Monoxide readings. The results showed that Sophie had not smoked, whilst Tara had a reading indicating she had. |
